Yachtmaster Sailing School - Cape Town
We are one of the oldest and most established Sailing Schools in South Africa. Our Principal, Alex Cousins, has been Instructing for over twelve years and during that time he has put in more time on the water than any other instructor in the Cape! If anyone can show you the ropes, its us.

Our School is an Internationally Recognised RYA (Royal Yachting Association), MCA (Maritime and Coast Guard Agency) endorsed and SAS (South African Sailing) Training Facility. We offer the full range of RYA and SAS Qualifications as well as a range of short professional courses for use in the Yachting and Super/Mega Yachting Industries.
We are based in the exquisite Western Cape region of South Africa, ideally situated at Royal Cape Yacht Club in Cape Town, with breathtaking views of Table Mountain and Robben Island and Club Mykonos near Langabaan and Saldanha Bay, with its clear lagoon and natural wildlife thanks to the West Coast National Park. Both locations are great for sailing and Saldanha Bay and Langebaan where your training usually starts meets the only approved RYA Examination Standard in the Country!
We pride ourselves on the skill and experience of our instructors, who are all highly experienced SAS and RYA Yachtmaster Instructors, and the very high standard and quality of our Yachts, Donna Mia and 34' South.
Our instructors are all experts in their subjects who have been and seen it all, and are here to pass on that well learnt knowledge so that you can get out there and start having adventures of your own.
We maintain a high standard on our Yachts and excellent equipment standards, which we ensure through continued annual inspections. They were specifically chosen for their training capabilities in our Seas, comfortable, easy to learn on and fun to sail we carry a full inventory of sails, including spinnakers, roller furlers and storm jibs and the navigation equipment includes latest generation RADAR, MARPA, AIS, GPS and Chartplotters. These valuable attributes contribute to our exceptional student success rate!
Our low Instructor:Student ratio means more hands on time for you! During the practical courses we give you as broad a range of sailing experiences as possible and during Mileage trips we aim to visit as many ports as possible, giving you valuable Boat Handling and Skippering Skills, rather than just clocking up mileage on long passages. By going that extra (Sea) mile we prepare you better for your Exam and ultimately, your Sailing Career.
It is this coupled with our need to see our students succeed and our pride in our high standard of Instruction that has produced a School with one of the Highest, if not the Highest, Pass Rates in South Africa!

We do not believe in hidden extras, so our prices include everything you need for the course you select:
All Course Weeks from start to finish.
Live-aboard accommodation during the Practical Sailing weeks.
Three Nutritious Meals a Day during Practical Sailing weeks.
All your RYA Practical and Theory course materials (books, packs, charts, Logbook and Colregs).
The use of all our Navigational Equipment.
The use of foul weather (sailing) gear during your Practical courses.
Diesel and Berthing Fees.
All your RYA / MCA Course Completion Certificates!
During your Practical Sailing Weeks you get to live on board the yachts allowing you to get used to your new found sea-legs. During your STCW'95 and Theory weeks and any additional RYA Powerboat Level II, RYA Jet-Ski, Super Yacht Steward(ess) and Deckhand Courses we can arrange for you to be accommodated on shore, if needed, in the new and trendy self catering Atlantic Point Backpackers Lodge, in a Dorm room, including Breakfast. The style and comfort of this new Backpackers Lodge will give you a break from the Yachts and a chance to see the Historical sites and sounds of Cape Town.
We assist you in becoming the most qualified and experienced Sailor in order to find a job in the Yachting and Super/Mega Yachting Industries. Many Yachting Agencies are choosing Yachtmaster Students because they know that they will be hiring someone who is fully qualified and professionally trained to be on board a yacht.
