Humminbird Fishin' Buddy
If you use your dinghy to explore small creeks and rivers, you've probably considered what a great idea it would be to have a depth sounder fitted. In most cases this is impractical and too expensive to be justified, until now.
Humminbird has launched the Fishin' Buddy, a transom mounted fish finder and sounder with an integral transducer shaft. You just slip the bracket over the transom, tighten it up and switch it on. No wire to run, no separate transducer to mount and because its powered by AA batteries it doesn't even need an external power supply.
There are four models in the range, three with black and white screens and one with a colour screen. Three have a fixed 24in transducer pole while the 130 model is telescopic between 24in and 40in.
Some models even offer SideFinding, showing you not just what's beneath the boat but also what is out to the side as well.

Verdict: A handy self-contained depth sounder which is ideal for exploring in the dinghy.
