Nauteek GPS unit
They might look like something from a childs toybox, but Nauteeks SC100 and SC200 GPS units are definitely aimed at adults racing sailors, in fact.
Powered by a lithium battery and with an integral antenna, the SC100 offers race timing, speed and course over the ground data, while the SC200 can calculate VMG, distance to start line, even interpolating your tacking angles to give true upwind direction and a record of how it varies.
Designed to be mast-mounted or fixed with Velcro strips to a flat surface, the displays can be set either to show a single item in 40mm digits, or two items on two lines.
But perhaps the way this device will really win racers hearts is by its data logging facility. Either unit can record position, speed and heading timestamps, which can be downloaded to your PC, giving up to 14 hours data when recorded every second. Google Earth or dedicated performance software can then replay the race, allowing you to assess the effects of currents, headers and lifts.
£254.47 ex VAT for the SC100, or £339.57 ex VAT for the SC200.

Verdict: A neat tactician for the serious sailracer.
