Suzuki 2.5
Supersedes Suzukis original tender-sized four-stroke and is slightly more powerful. Suzuki seems to be supplying the same unit to Johnson, but this is nearly fifty quid cheaper.
Lift & stowage: good-sized handle but theres no easy way to stow: the tiller pokes out and the engine sits at an angle when lying down. Cant be rested on its front end successfully either.
Underway: the fuel tap is clearly marked and the engine is easy to pull over and get started. There is some travel between forward and neutral gears, so finding neutral isnt always straightforward. and the tiller cable pokes out awkwardly.
Checkover: diameter of the tommy-bar clamps could be better but tilt and trim are easy to operate. A starter cord tethers the hood but can get in the way. The oil level port is obvious and a finer pitch prop can be supplied.
Hp/revs: 2.5hp/5250-5750rpm Cyl/capacity: Single cyl/68cc Stowed size: 41in x 18in x 13in (1030mm x 460mm x 320mm) Weight: 33lb (15kg) Bollard pull: 38kg Speed check: 4.5 knots
Verdict: A handy engine let down by its awkward stowing.
