Essential Boat Radar By Bill Johnson
This how-to book takes you from the basics of radar to the more advanced functions of modern sets. Its written by a man who has taught complete beginners, as well as long distance ocean cruising yachtsmen. Bill Johnson, engineer and sailor, has been running Aztec Sailing, his Plymouth cruising school, for more than 10 years.
His 110-page paperback explains how radar works, what it does and how to use it from getting to grips with the myriad controls to getting a good picture and using radar for or collision avoidance, navigation and pilotage. Theres a chapter on choosing and installing radar, as well as useful practical exercises, to test what youve learned, plus a glossary of technical terms and a host of useful diagrams.
Bill Anderson, a former RYA cruising manager and one of Yachting Monthly's Sailing Skills experts, was a consultant on the book.

Verdict: Everything you ever wanted to know about radar and a lot more besides
