Handling Storms at Sea By Hal Roth
Hal Roth has sailed more than 200,000 miles in 40 years, taking in three circumnavigations, 11 transatlantic crossings, five transpacifics and rounding Cape Horn three times. So when he says that 'violent weather is infrequent' you can believe what he's saying.
He tell you exactly what to do and in which sequence. Thus when a storm appears you: 1. Reef 2. Heave-to 3. Lie a-hull 4. Run off 5. Employ a sea-anchor or drogue.
There is also a section on planning, chartwork, coping with hurricanes and fear. Roth writes in a clear and honest fashion: 'On Day 1 you may think you are going to die. Day 2 you realise the yacht hasn't capsized and the bilge is dry. Day 3 you're standing at the stove concocting a meal.

Verdict: Do you know what to do if a storm hits? You will do after reading this...
